Business Development Manager, Flexport Factoring

The opportunity:

Flexport helps more than 10,000 clients and suppliers lead all aspects of their supply chain. Each of these customers faces significant working capital burdens that hamper their ability to grow their businesses. So far Flexport Capital has provided over $200 million in financing to Flexport customers to address these needs, and we’re just getting started. As a start-up within a start-up, we are building unique fintech products that leverage the resources and data of Flexport’s platform for global trade.

We are hiring a Business Development Manager to build Flexport Factoring. We are seeking an entrepreneurial individual to join a closely-knit team transforming global trade finance. You will own sourcing, prospecting, and deal generation and serve as a financial consultant to Flexport clients that are looking to leverage Flexport Factoring for their working capital needs. Due to the early-stage nature of the Flexport Factoring business, you will also have a key role leading and executing cross-functional strategic projects related to growth strategy, sales operations and capital markets.

You will:

  • Manage full deal cycles for Flexport Factoring products including sourcing, prospecting, pitching, qualifying/underwriting, negotiating, and closing 
  • Work closely with Flexport’s freight sales and account management teams, and our partner network, to identify potential clients for factoring products
  • Serve as the specialist for pitching Flexport Export Finance vision, products and value propositions
  • Experiment with different sales strategies to identify the best approaches for expansion
  • Work in tandem with marketing and growth teams to develop materials to help source leads and improve conversion rates
  • Create Flexport Factoring Sales Playbook and build processes to optimize for growth
  • Maintain close relationships with Flexport Factoring’s clients including entrepreneurs and C level executives
  • Continually focus on improving the sales processes and provide regular updates to leadership on sales performance and pipeline data
  • Support strategic projects and updates to company leadership regarding new products, financial insights, capital market partnerships, and more

You should have:

  • 10+ years experience in business development or sales in financial services and/or technology
  • Demonstrated passion for financial technology and the future of embedded financial services
  • Strong sales instincts, stellar negotiation skills, and a track record hitting and exceeding quota
  • Competitive and creative drive to win over customers and internal stakeholders
  • Proven success building and maintaining long-term commercial relationships
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team while managing multiple priorities in a fast paced environment
  • A high financial acumen and experience with financial statements and working capital
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;  ability to present to C level executives in a seamless way
  • Eagerness to build and operate in start-up environment 
  • Previous experience with SQL and Salesforce CRM is a plus
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves when needed
  • BA/BS degree; MBA is a plus
  • A "compliance first" attitude to keep our regulators happy and enthusiastic about Flexport since we operate in a heavily regulated industry.
